Day 24 - June 18 - Songs and Rabbits

ONE week left. Can't believe it.

While everyone else went to Tirunelveli to restock on snacks and drinks (can’t live without that mango juice!!!!), Kiera and I went to this morning's church service. The community has daily services throughout the week with scattered attendance, which some of us have attended a handful of times. However, we saw that Sunday definitely brings in a full house. Mr. Rajan, who helps to conduct the church services, prayed for our team and our families.

We had some much-needed down time today, then we went back to the village to sing songs. Our team sang "This Little Light of Mine" and the kids really seemed to like it! If we didn't think they'd break the ukulele, we might have seriously considered leaving it with them... :)

After this, some of the guys invited Harsha, Danish, and Arvind to eat rabbit with them. Our group had to go back to the CASA center, but later that night, one of the boys came by with an extremely generous amount of food. Apparently they caught and prepared the rabbit on their own! This only added to how incredibly good it was.

Overall, we're still processing the fact that next weekend, we'll be back in Chennai and starting to go our separate ways. This is the last set of Sunday services that we've been invited to; our last weekend seeing all the kids together on the weekend; but the memories are sweet and we're cherishing the last few days we have here.

A picture of the inside of the church in Packianathapuram. The women usually sit to the left while the men sit to the right. And for songs, each gender/age group goes up together to share the performance.

While we were gone they completed the majority of the formwork for the roof slab and beams. Just a bit more to be nailed together and then they will begin placing rebar!! :)

Here are some photos of the scaffolding you can expect to find around India. As noted previously, its a bit different from the states.
