Day 16 - June 10 - Tutoring and Lintel Beam Poured!
Today was an extremely successful day! To start the day, Caroline, Erin, and Kiera woke up and went for their daily 7 a.m. run! The rest of us woke up just in time for breakfast, which included dosas and sambar. At the site, we focused on the lintel level. This level exists to provide supports for any window and door shades around the building. In addition, scaffolding was completed so that concrete could be poured for the eyebrows, the concrete slabs used for shades. Also, the QA/QC team overlooked the rebar formation of the lintel beams. The major development from today was that the concrete for the lintel beams was also poured today. This not only puts us a day ahead of schedule but also gives the beam an extra day to cure! Afterwards, as requested by the kids, we walked over to the church yard for our daily ultimate frisbee game. It's amazing how it's only been a week since we taught them the rules for ultimate frisbee, and they've already perfected their game so that every game is competitive and fun. Our game ended a little early so that we could head over to the opening ceremony of the new water tank that had been relocated near our community center! It's amazing to know that the community is already branching out around the center. We were humbled to have been a part of this opening prayer and were excited to see the community members gathered near the building. Our day trip to the beach is planned for tomorrow and we are all extra hyped for that much needed down time. Will keep y'all posted. -Arvind Ramachandra
