Day 15 - June 9 - Dominos Pizza
Hello hello! Day 15 is coming to a close and boy was it a good one. This is Anna, writing to you from halfway across the world. Crazy! This morning started with a hearty breakfast of noodles and peanuts. Some of us caved and added sugar-- we miss Cinnamon Toast Crunch!!! After breakfast, we did laundry, tossed a frisbee around, and got organized for the day. As is our usual routine, a group headed out to the worksite to do quality control and help with any manual labor. Kiera, Ken, and others checked the rebar for the lintel beam, which will be poured tomorrow. I got to play with one of my favorite girls, Blessie. After lunch, things really got good. We had tea and rested, then a few of us went into Tirunelveli to shop for saris. Danish and Arvind had warned us that it takes their moms hours to sari shop, but Caroline, Erin and I were sure it wouldn't be anything serious. Once there, we got carried away. Embroidered, printed, cotton, silk, (or cotton silk blend!), traditional, trendy-- they were all so beautiful that it took us almost two hours to make purchases. We were waited on hand and foot by the abundant staff, and I was on a huge power trip. A sari can change a woman. We have to practice folding them and are going to ask women from the village who work at the CASA center to teach us. And the ... the grand finale... DOMINO'S PIZZA FOR DINNER! And a visit to the sweet shop across the street. We'd been planning this Friday night outing all week. It was the first American food we've had yet, and it tasted soooo good. Mine was topped with paneer and green bell peppers. I'll probably still be full in the morning. We have just two weeks like in Packianathapuram. We're proud of what we've done so far and excited about what we can do still. Thank you for the love, prayers, and support that reach us all the way to India. We miss you! -Anna
Walls up to lentil are complete!
Community water tanks have been moved to a place adjacent to the center. This was part of a community initative to put them onto public/shared land and to bring people together at the center.
