Day 4 - May 29 - Community Welcome
What an eventful day!
This morning we were graciously welcomed by the community in a ceremony at the church. We expressed our gratitude for having the community and the community members told what they were excited to use the building for. The kids would like to have novels for reading, the women hope to hold empowerment meetings and to sew garments for sale, and many members plan to use the computers for research and job applications. Hearing this directly from the community and seeing the impact of our project was extremely rewarding! I am so lucky to be a part of this project and team.
Later in the morning we reviewed the schedule with Mr. Dixon, compared the existing rebar with our drawings, and learned to tie rebar on site.
In the afternoon, we got to meet more of the community members and play games with the kids! They taught us to play Coco and Kabadi, both of which we didn't quite understand but nevertheless played with vigorous enthusiasm.
Overall, it was a great day and we hope to meet more of the community later this week!
